// VISIT INDES AT THE HEALTH VALLEY EVENT

The first edition of the Health Valley Event will be held on 4 December 2008. This event is the meeting place for everyone involved in innovations in the biomedical and health care sectors and plays an important role in bringing together supply and demand, opportunities and knowledge, entrepreneurs and scientists, ideas and capital.
Indes will present two new products at the Health Valley Event: the Sprizer, an inflatable high-low bed, and the Touch & Move, an electric mobile hoist. The Sprizer was launched by Arion International in October and the battery-powered hoist was recently introduced by JOYinCARE. Moving a hoist can be quite a challenge for elderly people, so powering it with a battery makes it considerably easier. When the push bracket is pressed down, the hoist moves automatically. The first hoists will be delivered early next year. For more information, surf to www.health-valley.nl/event and visit our stand.

// INDES TO OPEN BRANCH IN NINGBO, CHINA

Indes is setting up an organisation of its own in Ningbo, China. For a number of years, Indes has been supplying high-quality products that are designed and engineered in the Netherlands and made of components that are produced in China. To mention a few successful projects: Spinny, Sprizer, parts of IHB pendants, Driessen Trolley and the Braille Terminals. And the list goes on. Due to the increasing demand for production management, Indes has set up an organisation in Ningbo, which will cut initial costs and continue to fully safeguard quality. Needless to say, the customer stands to benefit. Does Indes have some sort of magic spell for success?It is first of all a matter of seizing opportunities and, secondly, of taking a common sense approach.

Think global, act local
It soon became apparent that there is lot to be gained from building an organisation dedicated to production management in China, not only because of the lower wage costs for assembly, but particularly because of the possible cost reduction on the supplier side. From now on, the communication lines between Indes and suppliers will be much shorter. The Chinese organisation will be responsible for purchasing, logistics and quality control. What is more, the time difference and the longer working week enhance efficiency, which shortens project lead times to boot. The same perfect combination of Dutch design and Chinese production is applied to the organisation in Ningbo.

Local Loop
How is Indes going to organise this? The first phase will be completed with an official opening on 8 December 2008. This means that the basic organisation will have to be in place by 8 December and that three engineers will be working in Ningbo. The second phase involves adding the functional details to the organisation. By the end of 2009, there will be a range of preferred suppliers and an assembly line set up. The Chinese organisation will then comprise a staff of around 10. In-house assembly offers better protection of intellectual property, as suppliers only produce the components and never get to see the end product.

Mission accomplished?
Will Indes move all production operations to China?
Certainly not. We are thinking ahead and see more opportunities in China that we wish to seize.

// INDES DEVELOPS AND PRODUCES: MOVANEXT

Indes has designed an innovative bicycle carrier. Reliable quality, unique user-friendliness, ease of installation, modern design and a reasonable cost level – these were the principal requirements that the new bicycle carrier, MovaNext, had to satisfy. The carrier is easy to mount in one simple action, is lightweight and has a small storage footprint. It is developed with a special view to transporting the more heavyweight electrical bicycles. Indes is responsible for the entire development and production of this project. Multanational Sales will launch the product in the spring of 2009. The carrier will then be available to Dutch consumers via the existing extensive dealer network.

// OPEN MINDS

That is the name of the joint presentation of Dutch Design during the 2008 Business of Design Week (BODW) ) in Hong Kong, one of the foremost design fairs in Asia. Over the next three years, the Dutch government and trade organisations will stage a great many events to secure a distinctive position for the Dutch creative industry in China. The BODW in Hong Kong is the first in this series of activities. Indes is one of the participants in the Dutch mission to China and will present itself during the BODW. Indes’ objective is to establish long-term relationships in China and, eventually, become a partner to Chinese companies.

// ASIAN CHALLENGE

On 22 and 23 September, an Eastern atmosphere pervaded the Jaarbeurs Utrecht exhibition centre. Approximately 400 participants attended the Asian Challenge business event and went back home with a great deal of information and a pocket full of calling cards. After state secretary Frank Heemskerk opened the event, Adjiedj Bakas talked about trends in doing business with Asia, followed by various lectures and discussions.In the discussion about design, Indes joined the debate as panel member to discuss key issues such as: Which Dutch design products and disciplines have a chance of success in these Asian markets? Does this involve export, production, outsourcing of production or collaboration? How can I penetrate these markets?
If you wish to know more about the possibilities for outsourcing your production to companies in China, please contact Indes.
